Working Groups

The EEB Working Group on Water works on issues related to European water policy. It consists of members of the EEB who have an interest in protecting water resources and promoting an integrated approach to water management. They come together in the working group to form EEB policy by sharing experiences and knowledge on how to improve water management in Europe, including identifying ways to deal with main pressures (eg hydromorphological pressures, pollution), and discussing the latest scientific knowledge and initiatives. They also devise strategies on influencing decision- and policy-making processes at the EU and in Member States.

Topics of interest to the group include (inter alia):

  • Implementation of Water Framework Directive (WFD), including the preparation and implementation of RBMPs
  • Influence the work of the WFD Common Implementation Strategy (CIS)
  • Promotion of measures that work with nature and achieving synergies between the Water Framework Directive (WFD) and nature legislation
  • Addressing hydromorphological pressures (eg. strategic approach for hydropower, integrated planning for navigation)

The EEB Working Group on Water meets once or twice a year and is coordinated by the Senior Policy Officer for Water and Soil, Balázs Horváth.
