NGOs call for all stakeholders to be involved in CAP reform talks

[24th November 2011, Brussels] – Statement by civil society NGOs on the selection of organisations speaking in the Common Agricultural Policy reform debate of the 23rd of November 2011, organised by the Polish presidency, in the European Parliament:

“We deplore the lack of involvement of civil society in such an important debate. Sadly, it further increases the impression that key decision makers in the Parliament and Council see themselves primarily as serving the interest of those who have benefitted from this multi-billion euro policy, rather than the general interest.

We ask the next EU Presidencies and the European Parliament Agriculture Committee to organise the next CAP reform debates involving a fair representation of civil society, including the various sectors active in such debate, as the European Commission was doing in 2010/11.”
