Noise

What is the EEB doing?

Despite the entry into force of the Environment Noise Directive (END), high levels of noise still affect a large number of Europeans, causing both physiological and psychological troubles to human health.

Currently, the standards set by the END do not impose binding limit values to Member States and lack the instruments required to address the sources of noise efficiently. This is why the EEB is actively involved in the revision process of the Directive and calls for more ambitious EU standards.

Furthermore, many Member States fail to comply with the Directive’s provisions which oblige them to monitor environmental problems and address local noise issues. Together with other environmental NGOs and its noise working group, the EEB follows the implementation of relevant EU legislation at national level.
