Biodiversity
What is the EEB doing?
The EEB, working with biodiversity experts from its member organisations, is closely monitoring the implementation of the existing legislation as well as participating in the policy debates about the future of the EU’s biodiversity policy.
A top priority is the implementation of the Habitats Directive - focusing on the establishment of the Natura 2000 Network which currently covers around 17% of Europe.
We have partnered the UN for the 2010: International Year of Biodiversity and strive to make the EU commit to binding targets in 2010 to halt the destruction of biodiversity.
We also work closely with partner organisations in the European Habitats Forum: a group of 14 international NGO networks committed to the conservation and restoration of habitats and species in Europe.
